Ling and Louie’s enjoyed even more television coverage as the Lou Crew descended upon Good Morning Arizona on Channel 3, showcasing a special dish off of our Chinese New Year Feast of Fortune Menu.

GM John Banquil did not disappoint as he skillfully demonstrated the preparation of our Feast of Fortune signature dish, Crispy Asian Sea Bass. John did a great job of not only cooking the dish, but also interacting with hosts, Tess Rafols and Javier Soto–Javier, by the way is a Ling and Louie’s regular and offered up a personal recommendation of our Scottsdale location.

Again making a splash on the daytime talk show, ABC 15′s Sonoran Living, GM John Banquil filled three amazing television spots in demonstrating Ling and Louie’s festive Chinese New Year menu.

Alongside hosts Andi Barness and Stephanie Sandoval, Banquil educated viewers while preparing two dishes in the first two segments: General Ling’s Chicken and Char Siu Pork. The show was rounded out by John demonstrating one of the Lucky Libations offered and by showcasing his signature “cocktail shake” –always a crowd pleaser. In addition, Andi read her fortune while ringing our Chinese gong, eating a donut and further acknowledging the fortune’s prophecy of an inability to wave off carbs for 2012.

As we enter cold and flu season, many of us rush into clinics to get shots in an effort to ward off the dreaded bugs that can take you out and lay you up for miserable days on end.

But what can you do to prevent the current epidemic of Boringitis?
Boringitis is most often a congenital disease, a condition existing at birth or that develops during the first month of life. Sadly, people born with Boringitis often develop even more severe symptoms as they age.

Some common symptoms include:

Complaining: incessantly complaining about their own problems – health, finances, job, relationships, etc. – and being completely disinterested in those of others.

Self-Centered: Self-centeredly talking only about your own life and interests.

Seriousness: Being overly serious and never cracking a smile.

Sickly Sweet: Being transparently sugary sweet just to try to make a good impression and gain approval.

Slow Talkers: Talking excruciatingly slowly and tediously, making points by going on and on.

Triviality: Talking constantly about trivial topics, including unimportant details.

Ling & Louie’s, a restaurant that is Not for Boring People, has a cure for your friends and family suffering from Boringitis this holiday season: Ling & Louie’s Gift Cards!

At Ling & Louie’s, you’ll find antidotes to each of the symptoms listed above.

Complaining: You think you’ve got problems? The perfect way to wash away your troubles is by imbibing in several of Ling & Louie’s White Pom Gimlets. After sipping the Stoli White Pomegranik, Pama Pomegranate Liqueur and lime juice, shaken to perfection, your troubles with fade into oblivion!

Self-Centered: For those only thinking about themselves, practicing a little sharing is just the ticket. We suggest you start with Louie’s Loaded Nachos, made for sharing! While it may be tough to share these seasoned wonton chips covered with cheddar-jack cheese, chicken, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, hoisin BBQ sauce, wasabi sour cream and Asian guacamole, it’s excellent practice for those suffering from Boringitis of the self-centered variety.

Seriousness: Lighten up the mood with a dish of Kung POW! Beef, sliced filet mignon wok’d with peppers, onions, broccoli, chilies and roasted peanuts in a spicy red chili-soy sauce. It’s hard not to laugh when an amateur tries to demonstrate his Kung Fu punches, which is just what we recommend as the Boringitis sufferer waits for his meal to arrive.

Sickly Sweet: People suffering from being overly sweet just need to have a good example set for modeling the ideal amount of sweetness. They need to try Ling & Louie’s Banana Caramel Spring Roll, a decadent spring rolled with banana cheesecake and dusted with cinnamon and sugar and served with fresh strawberries, caramel sauce and vanilla bean ice cream.

Slow Talkers: These Boringitis sufferers need a fire lit under them. There’s no better way than with Ling & Louie’s Firecracker Chicken with Broccoli. The crispy chicken wok’d with fresh broccoli and green onions in a fiery red chili sauce is sure to kick them into overdrive!

Triviality: Help reduce this Boringitis symptom by encouraging the suffer to think on a deeper level – like about the fleeting nature of life. One bowl of Long Life Chicken & Rice Soup, and she’ll be publishing the next edition of Deep Thoughts.

If you know a Boringitis sufferer, we are here to help! We suggest you purchase Ling & Louie’s gift cards to get them the antidotes they need ASAP!

And, so that you can help them along, we are now offering a free $10 gift card to you for every $50 worth of gift cards you buy for your Boringitis-stricken friends and family members! Here’s to a quick recovery via Ling & Louie’s!

Despite their different backgrounds, Ling & Louie both can’t help but get swept up in the most festive time of year in America – the Christmas holiday. Louie is steeped in his Midwestern tradition of Santa, sleighs, lights and trees. Ling looks forward to visiting her family in China where Christmas has become the most extravagant, commercial holiday season in the country. Christmas trees, snowmen, stars, Santa and his reindeer, decorated shop windows and tinsel are everywhere in China these days.

While it wasn’t the fashion so much when Ling was growing up, she finds that Chinese people today, especially young people, love celebrating the Christmas holiday even if they’re not Christians. For them, Christmas means a festive season with friends, shopping discounts, gifts and parties. These days, Yuletide has the outward excitement that traditional Chinese holidays seem to lack, especially to the young people who like glitter, glitz and something new.

Some Western Christmas traditions have been adopted, but Christmas in China still has its own traditions. Since the vast majority of Chinese people are not Christian, the importance of Christmas in China is still not as great as it is in the U.S. In fact, the main winter festival in China is the Chinese New Year which takes place toward the end of January. (You’ll want to keep an eye out for details on our Chinese New Year bash this year!)

For a not-boring Christmas here in the U.S., Ling offers some suggestions to incorporate some of her family’s favorite holiday traditions.

Decorate your tree with ornaments made from paper in the shapes of flowers, chains and lanterns.

Refer to your Christmas trees as “Trees of Light”.

Cut out red pagodas to paste on the windows and light your house with paper lanterns.

Refer to Santa Claus as “Dun Che Lao Ren” which means “Christmas Old Man”.

Hang muslin stockings so that Christmas Old Man can fill them with gifts and treats.

On Christmas Eve or Christmas night, plan an extensive program at school with singing and plays about the day Jesus was born.

Most importantly, begin preparations for the Chinese New Year, officially called the Spring Festival, which marks the beginning of the new Chinese calendar year.

Here’s to a joyful holiday season, Chinese Style!
